Scarlett Moon!
Hey, my name is Scarlett, and I have basically been at camp my entire 15 years of life. Ever since I was old enough to come to a week at camp during the summer, I have never stopped. I consistently go as many times as I can because camp makes me feel safe and comfortable in my own skin. Camp has brought me so much closer to people who are now my best friends, my family members, and specifically God. The people at camp are amazing, they create a space for kids all over the world to create strong relationships that are going to last for the rest of their life. It’s because of The Swamp, I met my best friends, Ashley Payne, Ruby Anderton, Isaac Gibson, and Khalil Owens (Sorry for the name drop guys). Camp has fostered our friendships and created such a special bond that would never ever have happened without a place away from all the worldly troubles that the real world contains. All four of these people were placed into my life through God and have made a huge impact on who I am today. Without Camp in my life I wouldn’t be close with my older brother, Jackson. My brother moved to Gainesville, Florida about a year ago and I hadn’t realized how much I missed my brother until we said goodbye at Camp. I remember going to the Mingle of Honor to encourage people and my brother grabs my hand and tells me he wants to encourage me first. We immediately start crying because we know this is our last time together at camp. I remember feeling so loved, yet so sad knowing that someone that I love so much was moving 5 hours away, but I wouldn't have ever had that moment without being able to retreat away to our second home. My relationship with God would not exist if I had never been to Camp Swamp. At my school, I see so many people who claim to know and follow God and his teachings, but continue to hurt others around and cause chaos for the community and these types of people tend to cause me to draw away from God. The camp community puts God first and really helps me to see what a true man or woman of God is. I have been able to have the right conversations that have helped me want to develop a relationship with God. Camp has helped me be around people that radiate the spirit and helped me not feel alone. Overall, I love camp so much and I really think everyone should have an opportunity to learn about God, others, and yourself at Camp Swamp. Thank you.
