Learning Through Play
At Camp Swamp, we believe in learning through play. Every week we remind our campers that one of our goals is to HAVE FUN! Through the thirty plus years of camp, we recognize how much God can do in us and through us when we set up opportunities for extended play at camp.
We prefer experiential learning with structured and unstructured time over a rigid schedule that mimics the traditional school or church conference setting. Active learning through games, challenges, and informal social interactions develops social and emotional skills. We all recognize the need for this younger generation to build in-person relational skills in a time where digital connection is the preferred method. Providing space for play encourages the development of friendships and connections with other campers and counselors, which leads to the creation of in-person community.
Prayerfully we are practicing living in a kingdom community for that week of camp and hopefully giving our campers and counselors a glimpse of life to the full in healthy embodied community. The playful and welcoming community at camp can draw a sharp contrast to the social settings at school, in the neighborhood, or on the phone, and allows them to see the call of Jesus more clearly.
Not only do kids need play, so do adults! We invite you to join us for our first annual Adult Camp this summer and our parent retreats this Fall to experience play and community with us.
